The single biggest health issue seniors seem to share, is the struggle with weight. Included in that, is belly fat.
Belly fat goes way past appearances. It is a serious health risk. Seniors and others need to take action.
How Should We Deal With Sugar And Belly Fat?
Websites and treatment plans for getting rid of the dangerious belly fat are vast. Whether it’s pills or powder, diets or exercise, or all of the above, the suggestions are everywhere.
More often than not, it is a, pick your poison concept.
What plan is best?
WebMD describes belly fat as the worst fat we can have. They explain that what is called visceral fat, or deep fat. There is a place for this type of fat. It’s the excess visceral fat carried around the waist that is dangerous.
When it is present around the waist, it is also present around the body organs such as the heart.
It is that excess fat that gives us the risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, and so much more.
We all know it’s unhealthy. So what should we do about it?
As mentioned. The options are plentiful. Portion control diets are a favorite. For those who need guidance as to what foods and how much, a plan such as Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig might work well.
If you were to log into Amazon.com and search ‘diet pills’ in the health section, you would find over 200 choices. All claim that you will lose weight.
If it were that easy, why are there so many fat people?
I searched Amazon for diet plans. I found more than eighty. They included some already mentioned, like Nutrisystem.
What about belly fat?
My search started when I read about a plan from the website, Golo.com. The science seems to suggest the concept of Golo.com to be sensible.
Golo.com focuses on insulin resistance. The plan says that insulin is the tool to fighting fat. It has nothing to do with being diabetic.
There are two types of sugar. Fructose and glucose.
I learned that fructose, a form of sugar, is only processed in the liver. When the liver is over loaded, the sugar is turned to fat to ease the workload on the liver. It is then stored in the belly.
The insulin connection pertains to glucose. This sugar type is normally converted to energy by the hormone insulin. It facilitates metabolism.
According to Golo.com, there is an insulin restrictor that develops when too much sugar is present. The glucose is not converted to energy and becomes fat stored in the belly.
The problem is Sugar. There is to much sugar in our food and our bodies can not handle it.
In older people, insulin production is not as effective in turning glucose (sugar) into energy and it ends up as belly fat. Between the fructose sugar in the liver and the glucose sugar not being processed by insulin, the perfect storm ends up as belly fat.
Golo.com Markets A Product Called Release
It is a patented, all natural plant formula that is said to adjust the triggers associated with weight gain.
Combined with recipe suggestions and a mild exercise plan, weight loss will occur. The big win is in the reduction of belly fat.
I read some reviews from users of Release, the Golo.com product. They seem to be nearly split between great and it doesn’t work at all.
The price of the plan, largely from the pills, comes in at around $40 a month. Some of the negative comments revolved around the way the credit cards are charged.
Some say it worked well, other reviews said the opposite. The product has a 30 day money back guarantee.
One review was critical of the 30 days. It starts at time of order, and the delivery time consumed half the guarantee period.
I got the impression that the company had a customer relations problem rather than a product problem.

Forskolin is a popular diet pill and is sold by several marketers in multiply forms at Amazon.com. It seems to have all the popular ingredients of the modern diet pill weight loss program.
The claims of one product said, “Forskolin 250mg Natural Supplement is a belly thigh fat burner and appetite suppressant.”
I like to read reviews.
Only 2% were one star. The equivalent of a negative review.

Thinking Of Taking Pills, Here Is Another Option
Another prospect of losing weight comes in a pill called Shape Shifter. Like other plans this product will suppress appetite. It does so with all natural ingredients.

Here’s the claim. Work outs heat the body triggering something called the biochemical process of thermogenesis.

The Evidence Is Overwhelming.
Sugar is the culprit.
If you were to eliminate it completely from your diet, you would go a long ways to getting rid of belly fat.
I read one report that states sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine. I did not read the study quoted but it was titled, “Pushing the drug sugar analogy to the limit,” published in 2013.
The point is, we crave sugar and we are not about to give it up. Period.
As in the premise of the Golo.com plan, sugar makes the body store fat. Whether their science is valid or not, sugar is the problem.
As one report said, cutting out sugar makes weight loss a lot easier.
I read that food manufacturers have more than fifty names for sugar. It is rare to see the actual word in the ingredients. Usually it will be a syrup of some type.
The insulin thing is true. Sugar spikes insulin production and that causes fat storage. Even a small amount.
I read that of 600,000 products sold in a grocery store, 80% have sugar.
Even fruits, the good foods, are full of sugar.
For seniors, the sugar thing is worse than for younger people. It goes back to the Golo.com plan that is designed to change how insulin causes the storage of fat.
Seniors, only because of age, have more trouble turning sugar into energy than younger people. More sugar equals more fat.
As I see the evidence,there is only one way to get rid of the dangerous belly fat. Remember earlier, we talked about visceral fat?
It is the bad fat. Some is needed internally to protect the heart and other organs. Sort of like a cushion. Too much, and high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes, risks of cancers and other diseases become a problem.
The only way to rid yourself of belly fat is to stop taking in sugar. Sounds easy but we all know it’s not. We do owe it to ourselves to at least try.

There Are Two Ways To Stop Eating Sugar
The first method
Focus on the good foods and abstain from the bad. Here is a list I found. In alphabetical order.
A list of good foods.
- Dark or Semi-sweet chocolate
- Flaxseed oil
- Macadamia nuts
- Natural peanut butter
- Olive oil
- Sunflower seeds
This list will cause most people to give up before they start. Who wants to spend a life time eating from the list?
The six points from Authority Nutrition sighted above will make the dieting concepts of cutting sugar a little easier to embrace.
What else can we do?
There may be a simpler plan. I stumbled upon the Zero Belly Diet. It is a simple way to implement the tasks of reducing sugar but still eating. It’s not a pill, potion, or powder. It is information.

The second method
It is perhaps an easier way to lose belly fat but not all agree it is the best way. It boils down to taking pills.

It’s not rocket science. The pill choice is simply a way to reduce the desire to eat. Appetite repressers make up the bulk of the choices in the pill category.
Healthy living after 60, means having a healthy body. While most of us who are over 60 have the problem of excess fat, we should not be lulled into the sense of ‘oh well, I’m old.’
No Plan Is Best For Everybody. But No Plan At All, Is The Worst Plan Of All.
Does sugar cause belly fat? Every expert I could find answered a resounding yes.
Finding a way to lose excess belly fat means cutting sugar from your diet. It will not be easy, what ever plan you choose.
